17 Regency projects aiming for LEED certification

A sustainable building initiative introduced about 18 months ago by Jacksonville, Fla.-based Regency Centers is on schedule to exceed its goal of gaining LEED certification for 20% of the company’s new developments.

LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a U.S. Green Building Council program that sets benchmarks for sustainable building design and construction.

According to Mark Peternell, Regency’s VP sustainability, the initiative, called “Greengenuity,” has so far produced six shopping center developments that are actively seeking LEED-CS (Core-and-Shell) certification and 11 more projects that have registered to apply for certification.
