Former Johnson & Johnson exec to Cantor Colburn

HARTFORD, Conn. — Cantor Colburn, a leading intellectual property law firm, has hired partner Daniel Chung, former chief trademark counsel at Johnson & Johnson.

Chung has more than 20 years of experience in all aspects of trademark and copyright counseling, enforcement, strategy and portfolio management, having held senior counsel positions at several multinational global corporations and having worked in private practice.

As chief trademark counsel for Johnson & Johnson, Chung managed a large global trademark department responsible for one of the largest global trademark, copyright and domain name portfolios for businesses in the consumer products, medical devices and pharmaceutical sectors. Previously, Chung was general counsel of global intellectual property for Cadbury PLC, managing all aspects of its global trademark and patent portfolio for businesses in the confectionery, beverages and food sectors. Chung has provided IP leadership and strategy on numerous mergers and acquisitions transactions, including the acquisition and divestiture of multibillion dollar businesses, and complex licensing arrangements and corporate agreements.

"Dan brings numerous talents, broad legal and leadership experience, strategic insights and added trademark and transactional expertise to our firm," said Michael A. Cantor, co-managing partner of Cantor Colburn. "Significantly, Dan's many years as a corporate trademark counsel brings a unique in-house perspective that will be of great benefit to our clients."

Chung will work at the Hartford office, and is a long-term resident of Connecticut. He received his bachelor of science from Cornell University in material science and engineering and Juris doctorate degree from the University of Buffalo. He is also admitted to the state bars of Connecticut and New York.

"I am very pleased and excited to join Cantor Colburn — one of the largest diversified IP-focused law practices in the country," said Chung.  "I hope to help expand the firm's breadth of services offered to its global client base and add my experience and abilities to the solid resources in the trademark and IP practice groups."
