Report: Walmart moving greeters from lobbies into stores, near checkouts

New York City -- In a break with longstanding company tradition, Walmart is moving its greeters from its lobbies into the stores near the cash registers, Bloomberg reported.

In their new location, the greeters will be able to direct shoppers to products they are looking for, and also to shorter checkout lines, the report said.

It’s a better position inside the store,” Walmart spokesman David Tovar said in the Bloomberg report. “The greeters will be able to assist customers in more effective ways. Whether they are coming in the door or are 15 ft. away, they will still be able to greet people.”

The news follows a recent report that chain was eliminating greeters at its 3,000 U.S. supercenters from the overnight shift, which runs from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., and reassigning them to other duties.

Walmart has taken a right and

Walmart has taken a right and very wise decision in diverting the customers in a proper direction..People will have different varieties of products and there are more chances that customers buy more products..

Wal-Mart Greeters

It dosen't surprise me that yet another "Mr. Sam" policy is pushed aside for perceived improvement to customer service. The biggest challenge for Wal-Mart greeters will be finding a checkout that actually has someone working at the register!!!! With as many as 40 registers per store, you rarely see more that 8 actually being manned..... that is why you see more and more loaded shopping carts being abandoned in the stores.....

Wake up Wal-Mart!!!
