Greensboro, N.C. Tanger Factory Outlet Centers, headquartered in Greensboro, N.C., will host an official ground breaking for the new Tanger Outlet Center of Mebane, N.C., on Dec. 10.
The 317,000-sq.-ft. Tanger center will feature 80 upscale outlet stores including Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5th, Banana Republic Factory Store, Coach Factory, Gap Outlet, J. Crew, Michael Kors, Nike Factory Store and Tommy Hilfiger.
The new Tanger Outlet Center is expected to provide a significant boost to the area’s local economy. With North Carolina’s unemployment rate hovering in the 10% range during 2009, the jobs being created by the Tanger development project in Mebane are welcome news. During the center’s year-long building phase, more than 300 high-paying construction jobs are being created. Once open in fall 2010, the Tanger center will employ more than 800 full- and part-time retail management and sales positions.
“Having the state’s largest retail shopping development taking place here in our backyard is a tremendous economic stimulus for our city, region and the entire state of North Carolina,” said Mebane mayor Glendel Stephenson.
