Topshop/Topman plans to open a 40,000-sq-ft. flagship store on Fifth Avenue in New York. The new Manhattan store will be located on the corner of 49th Street, and is adjacent to Rockefeller Center.
The store will open in fall 2014, and several hundred new jobs will be created both within retail and new U.S. head office operations based in New York. The upper stories feature art deco detailing, while the lower floors transition to the contemporary style, with continuous glazing on two levels, purposely created to allow dynamic window displays and creating a wrap-around dramatic impact.
Topshop and Topman will expand further within the U.S. with four additional new store openings across the country: Topshop and Topman joint stores in Fashion Valley San Diego (17,500 sq. ft.), and a stand-alone Topshop in Springfield Town Center Washington (5,000 sq. ft.) in the fall of 2014 and Topshop and Topman joint stores in Galleria Mall Houston (16,500 sq. ft.) and Lennox Square Mall Atlanta (15,500 sq. ft.) slated for spring 2015.
International franchise expansion of the Topshop and Topman brands will lead to a planned 15 stores in eight countries by summer 2014, including Russia, Turkey and Vietnam.
“Following the investment of Leonard Green & Partners in December 2012, it was always our plan to significantly expand Topshop and Topman in the U.S., and their input and expertise within this market has been very welcome,” said Sir Philip Green, CEO of Topshop/Topman parent company Arcadia Retail Group. “In addition to our flagship stores expansion, we are continually developing our topshop.com and topman.com sites, and our on-going partnership with Nordstrom continues to develop. I am very excited about Fifth Avenue, having looked for a location there for many years, and I believe this corner is both hugely prominent and perfectly located for our brands. I am also delighted to be entering new markets for the first time in the other great cities.”
