Destination XL Group Inc. shrunk its net loss to $574,000 in the first quarter of fiscal 2015, compared to $3.5 million the same quarter a year earlier. A shift to operating income from operating loss helped reduce total net loss.

Net earnings declined 17% to $105 million from $126 million a year earlier, with increased marketing spending contributing to the decrease.
Specialty teen retailer Hot Topic is acquiring Geeknet, parent company of online retailers ThinkGeek and ThinkGeek Solutions, for approximately $122 million, which is more than double the company’s market value.
