Levallois-Perret, France French retailer Carrefour is one of two companies with its sights set on buying Brazilian supermarket chain Gimenes, according to local Brazilian newspaper Folha de S. Paulo.
Carrefour offered 55 million Brazilian reals ($26 million U.S. dollars) to acquire 22 Gimenes stores. Carrefour also made an alternate bid to buy 12 units, the article said.
Carrefour already has a presence in Brazil through its acquisition of wholesale chain Atacadao in 2007. Carrefour’s bids are up against a bid by local supermarket company, Associacao Ricoy, according to the report.
Gimenes currently has 23 stores across Sao Paulo, Brazil.
