Philadelphia Destination Maternity Corp. said Thursday that same-store sales rose 5.1% in January. Total sales for the period edged up less than 1% to $38.8 million from $38.7 million last year.
"We are pleased to have achieved this sales performance with lower markdown levels and improved merchandise gross margin performance vs. last year," said CEO Ed Kress in a statement.
In other news, Destination Maternity is doubling the number of Motherhood Maternity apparel shops at Babies “R” Us.
An additional 69 shops are opening in Babies “R” Us stores, bringing the total in-store shops to 138. Each shop offers an assortment of apparel for moms-to-be, from casual and career to sleepwear and intimates.
