Columbus, Ohio The president of Kroger Co. said Thursday that he is retiring after more than 30 years with the company.
Kroger said Don McGeorge, president and COO, plans to work with the company until late in the year to help with the executive transition. To replace McGeorge, the company’s board tapped vice chairman Rodney McMullen.
McGeorge started out in 1977 as a store co-manager in Louisville and went on to lead Kroger’s Michigan and Columbus divisions. He’s served as president since 2003.
McMullen officially steps into the president’s post Aug. 1.
The company said McGeorge will serve as a special adviser to CEO David Dillon and remain on the board as he assists in the transition.
