Little Rock, Ark. Dillard's Inc. said Thursday that August same-store sales decreased 7%.
Total sales were $500.8 million compared with $537 million in the same period last year.
Dillard's said revenue was hurt by the temporary closure of 13 of its stores directly in Hurricane Gustav's path beginning Aug. 30. Hurricane damage to the stores was minimal, and eight of the stores have since reopened.
Revenue was slightly above the average company trend in the central and western regions and below trend in the eastern region.
During the four weeks ended Aug. 30, sales in the juniors' and children's apparel category were significantly below the trend.
