Montpelier, Vt. The Vermont Secretary of State's office announced Friday that Rite Aid Corp. has agreed to pay an $80,000 administrative penalty for violating practice standards after it bought the Brooks pharmacy chain.
According to the Vermont Office of Professional Regulation, after Rite Aid bought Brooks in 2007 it didn't given adequate warning to its customers, made prescription errors, misplaced prescriptions and provided inadequate service.
Office of Professional Regulation Director Chris Winters said Rite Aid's lack of planning for the transition put Vermonters at risk.
Winters added that no physical harm occurred, but that there must be consequences for not following the law.
