Cranston, R.I. Boston-based The Wilder Cos. said Tuesday it has signed a lease with Anthropologie for Cranston's Garden City Center.
Anthropologie will occupy 12,200 sq. ft. in the center's Village area. Construction on the new store will begin immediately and opening is planned for April 2011.
The Garden City Center location will be Anthropologie's only store in Rhode Island.
The 500,000-sq.-ft. shopping center is undergoing a redevelopment, which includes adding more merchants unique to the center and trade area, upgrading the building facades, improving site signage, traffic flow and increasing the synergy between the center's three shopping areas.
The center is currently home to 55 shops, services, and eateries including Banana Republic; Talbots; Mel and Me; F. Bianco; Providence Diamond Co.; Chico's; Coldwater Creek; Starbucks; Williams-Sonoma; Borders and Whole Foods Market. New retailers recently joining the center include Francesca's Collections, Chipotle Mexican Grill, and Carters.
