  • Loblaw testing small-store format

    New York -- Loblaw Cos., Canada's largest grocer, is testing a small-store discount under the Box by No Frills banner. 

    The company debuted the concept in Calgary, in a 10,000-sq.-ft. store. The store everyday low price" on groceries and other merchandise, Sarah Davis, Loblaw's CFO said in a conference call Wednesday, The Canadian Press reported.
     

  • Staples introduces omni-channel stores

    Framingham, Mass. -- Staples has launched an "omni-channel" retail concept, opening a location in Norwood, Mass., and Dover, Del. The new format incorporate Staples online and mobile assets into the retail experience.

  • Elliman retail team to lease nine Harlem buildings

    New York -- Douglas Elliman’s Retail Group has won exclusive rights to lease a 25,000-sq.-ft., nine-building portfolio in Harlem.

    Five of the buildings are on a central transverse at 135th Street, between Adam Clayton Powell and Frederick Douglass Boulevards, one is on Adam Clayton Powell Blvd. and three are on the revitalized Frederick Douglass Blvd. Store sizes range from 500 to 5,000 sq. ft.

     

  • DRE signs five retailers into Hampton Roads

    Virginia Beach, Va. -- Divaris Real Estate has arranged five retail leases for space in Chesapeake, Norfolk and Virginia Beach.

    T-Mobile signed three leases for 4,225 sq. ft. The company will move into 1,600 sq. ft. in Kempsriver Crossing in Virginia Beach, 1,500 sq. ft. in Southern Shopping Center in Norfolk and 1,125 sq. ft. in Indian River Shoppes in Chesapeake.

    Original Mattress Factory is relocating to a larger space in Sam’s Circle in Chesapeake. The new space is 2,400 sq. ft.

  • PizzaRev to play role in Burbank

    Los Angeles -- PizzaRev, the fast-casual artisan pizza concept, will build a flagship location in Burbank’s shopping and entertainment district at the intersection of E. Palm Ave. & N. San Fernando Blvd.

    The company has announced plans to add two new locations in Oxnard and El Segundo, Calif. this summer and to begin franchising soon. PizzaRev currently operates three locations in Studio City, Woodland Hills and Northridge, Calif.

  • Wal-Mart to open a superstore on site of former racetrack

    Cicero, Ill. -- The town of Cicero, Ill., and Wal-Mart Stores announced an agreement on Tuesday to build a Walmart Supercenter on a portion of a former racetrack site.

    Under the contract, Wal-Mart will pay $7.5 million for 24.67 acres of land at the long-vacant and dilapidated Sportsman’s racetrack to construct a 190,000-sq.-ft. store.

    Cicero will continue to own 10 acres of the remaining Sportsman's property, which is reserved for future retail expansion and development.

     

  • Sembler portfolio adds 900,000 sq. ft. in 2013 first half

    St. Petersburg, Fla. -- The Sembler Co. has added nearly 900,000 sq. ft. to its portfolio of third-party management and leasing assignments through the end of the year’s second quarter.

    New assignments include co-managing 672,259 sq. ft. of retail properties across Florida and Georgia with Community Reinvestment Partners II. Sembler will handle leasing for most of the properties.

  • Johnny Rockets acquired by Sun Capital

    New York -- Johnny Rockets has been acquired by an affiliate of private-equity group Sun Capital Partners Inc. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

    Johnny Rockets operates about 300 corporate and franchise-owned hamburger restaurants in 30 states and 16 countries, including 17 Six Flags amusement park locations and 11 Royal Caribbean cruise ships.

  • BJ's Warehouse opens 200th store

    Westborough, Mass. -- BJ's Membership Club said it has opened its 200th club, located in Fayetteville, N.C.

    Grand opening celebrations will take place on June 22 and 23.

     

  • Englewood Construction builds Chicago area’s first Ports 1961

    Chicago -- Englewood Construction announced its retail group has begun work on the Chicago market’s first Ports 1961, a luxury apparel retailer, in Rosemont, Ill.
     
    “Ports 1961 chose to enter the Chicago area by locating within Fashion Outlets of Chicago,” said William Di Santo, president of Lemont, Ill.-based Englewood Construction. “The retail world is anxiously awaiting the August 1 opening of this world-class fashion outlet mall in Rosemont.”
