In honor of its 40th anniversary, Starbucks has given its signature mermaid a facelift. The company’s new, more streamlined logo is devoid of words -- the circle surrounding the iconic sea nymph figure has been dropped as has the “Starbucks Coffee” lettering. CEO Howard Schultz said the new logo reflects the company’s future, while holding onto its heritage. According to Starbucks, the new logo is better suited to the company’s expansion beyond coffee into a wider array of business lines and into more international markets.
