The Home Depot breach potentially impacted another 60 million consumers. As I write this article, reports are being made public about a breach involving the office supply retailer Staples. We can no longer deny that cybercrime is a real and growing threat to the retail sector.

Target Corp. has named Brad Maiorino as senior VP, chief information security officer, a new position added as the chain overhauls its security department in the wake of its data breach. Maiorino comes to Target from General Motors, where he was the company’s chief information security and information technology risk officer. Prior to that, he was the chief information security officer at General Electric.

The gunfire terrified shoppers at the Garden State Plaza in Paramus, N.J., and sparked a massive police response, followed by a tense six hours as cops searched for the gunman and evacuated panicked employees and customers. The gunman eventually shot himself in the head in a secluded part of the 2.1 million-sq.-ft. mall.
