Advance Auto Names New Execs

Roanoke, Va. Advance Auto Parts named Jim Wade as president. Wade, who previously served as the company’s executive VP, will be responsible for the chain’s customer-focused and sales functions, and will execute the company’s commercial expansion and DIY strategies.

Kevin Freeland has been appointed COO. He previously served as the company’s executive VP, merchandising, supply chain and information technology.

In his new role, Freeland will manage the company’s operations, including merchandising, inventory management, supply chain, store operational support, e-commerce, and information technology. He will also lead the company’s Availability Excellence and Superior Experience strategies.

Both executives will report to Darren Jackson, the company’s CEO, as well as Mike Norona, executive VP and CFO, and Keith Oreson, senior VP, human resources.

Blockbuster Names Leader for Digital Unit

Dallas Blockbuster has hired Kevin Lewis as senior VP, digital entertainment, a new position designed to expand and guide Blockbuster’s continued foray into digital entertainment.

Lewis previously served as chief of strategy and new business development at Philips Consumer Lifestyle, a product company that is part of Amsterdam-based Royal Philips.

Wal-Mart CEO Issues Statement on Inauguration of Obama

Bentonville, Ark. Wal-Mart president and CEO Lee Scott has issued the following statement regarding Barack Obama’s inauguration as President of the United States:

“Wal-Mart congratulates Barack Obama on his historic inauguration as President of the United States. This is clearly a time of great opportunity for our country, and also a time of great challenge. We stand ready to partner with our new President, his Administration and the Congress to make real progress on the critical issues that confront this nation.”
