APG Cash Drawer releases Bluetooth interface
Minneapolis — APG Cash Drawer LLC is releasing the BluePro Bluetooth interface for cash drawers. Now available for purchase through APG’s distribution partners, the BluePro Bluetooth interface will enable cash drawer control via Bluetooth communication and allows retailers to wirelessly synchronize and create a one to one relationship between the cash drawer and tablet.
The BluePro interface plugs into most printer-driven cash drawers so it can pair with a tablet via Bluetooth connection. The range of this communication is purposely limited by the BluePro device so that retailers can be assured of having only attended cash transactions.
The BluePro Bluetooth interface is Apple MFi certified to work with iOS devices such as iPhone, iPod, and iPad. APG will provide the necessary software development kit for integration on the Android and iOS platforms, with a Windows solution coming soon.

StopLift introduces self-checkout security tool
Cambridge, Mass. – StopLift Checkout Vision Systems is introducing the Self-Checkout Accelerator, which is designed to immediately flag unscanned merchandise at the checkout and alert the attendant before the customer leaves the checkout, improve customer service at the self-checkout, and prevent false alerts and interventions.
Self-checkout companies such as NCR and Fujitsu have already been working with StopLift to directly integrate their self-checkouts with the Self-Checkout Accelerator system, which also prevents false alerts, e.g. a purse on the conveyor belt.
StopLift’s Scan-It-All system finds any incidents of scan-avoidance, where merchandise is not scanned or rung up before being given to the customer. This includes incidents which could be mistakes by the cashier or customer at self-checkout, as well as items left in the shopping cart.
As soon as a scan avoidance incident occurs, StopLift, which constantly monitors 100% of the security video, flags the transaction as suspicious. It reports the incident, identifying the cashier or customer. The technology eliminates human review of video, reduces and deters fraud at the checkout, and improves profitability. StopLift develops targeted applications to address the specific needs of retailers from different sectors including general merchandise, grocery, and specialty retail.

Starbucks names new execs for Teavana and Canada; Teavana CEO retires
Seattle – Starbucks Coffee Company has named Starbucks Canada executive VP and president Annie Young-Scrivner as executive VP and president, Teavana. Nine-year retail operations executive and employee resources senior VP Rossann Williams has been appointed senior VP and president, Starbucks Canada.
Teavana founder and CEO Andy Mack, having helped with the integration of Teavana with Starbucks, has decided to retire from the company.
