Baja Fresh to pilot Sparkfly omnichannel promotion tracking

BY Dan Berthiaume

Irvine, Calif. – Baja Fresh is piloting a solution from Sparkfly that will allow it to launch promotions through Google Search, Facebook, Yelp, Opera Mediaworks and UberMedia, and assess the effectiveness of each individual channel with real-time redemption data. Leveraging the technology from the Sparkfly platform, the campaign includes information on basket size and individual items purchased.

The campaign marks the first time Baja Fresh has ever run digital and mobile promotions, and is part of the restaurant’s national “Catch 2” Seafood Taco combo deal. With the mobile promotion, consumers will be eligible to receive $2 off an $8 order, or $5 off a $15 order. The partnership is starting with a two-month campaign in Los Angeles, with over 60 different Baja Fresh locations.

“We never imagined we would be able to run a program like this without undergoing a major upgrade to our hardware,” said Chuck Rink, President and CEO at Baja Fresh. “Partnering with Sparkfly allows us to run unique digital promotions and coupons, while using the existing systems we already have in place.”

LightSpeed launches advanced cloud analytics

BY Dan Berthiaume

Montreal – LightSpeed is launching Advanced Reporting for LightSpeed Cloud, which adds Big Data analytics to LightSpeed’s cloud-based POS system. The analytics capability is designed to give retailers real-time insight into sales, inventory trends and customer preferences.

LightSpeed’s new Advanced Reporting for Cloud includes more than 40 reports that give detailed information on product sales, profits and margins; customer preferences; employee performance; payment methods; and vendor-by-vendor analytics; across all stores and channels.

“Customer engagement, forecasting and inventory management technologies are only as good as the data that fuels them,” said Dax Dasilva, CEO of LightSpeed. “This, coupled with more traditional retailers expanding online and bringing retail technologies into their stores, has made demand for cloud-based POS tools and data analytics soar.”

VeriFone expands Way2Ride app to Philly taxis

BY Dan Berthiaume

San Jose, Calif. – VeriFone Systems Inc. is making its Way2ride sound-based mobile app for smartphones available to taxi passengers in Philadelphia. Way2ride enables Philadelphia passengers to tap and pay for cab fares in 1,400 of the 1,600 taxi cabs currently operating in the city.

Passengers can download the free Way2ride app to their iOS or Android smartphones and pre-load payment information and preferred tip amounts. Digital receipts are immediately emailed to the passenger and stored in the app and online portal for access and expensing of business trips.

“The launch of Way2ride in nearly every cab operating in the city of Philadelphia is a result of the considerable success it has experienced following the app’s initial launch in New York City,” said Amos Tamam, senior VP of taxi systems for VeriFone.
