BCBG debuts new retail format
New York – BCBGMAXAZRIAGROUP, the $1 billion global fashion brand, has launched a new, fast-fashion store concept, Lola, targeted at young women (ages 16 to 26). The 3,000-sq.-ft. store, has a cool, hip vibe and is designed as an urban studio apartment, complete with fireplace, daybed, spiral staircase, and closet. Salvaged doors give the storefront a Lower East Side feel.
With locations in Mall of America, Bloomington, Minn., and San Juan, Lola was designed in-house by BCBG. Nearly every component in the space was engineered and manufactured by idX Corp., St, Louis.
UGG Madison Ave. flagship completed
New York City – West Hampstead, N.Y.-based construction firm Corcon and J.A. Stowell Construction, Inc. of California said Tuesday they have completed UGG Australia’s Madison Avenue flagship store in New York City.
The 4,613-sq.-ft. store was completed on October 28. J.A. Stowell Construction was the construction manager and owner representative for UGG Australia, Corcon served as general contractor, and Anthony Donnelly of VisualWorks, U.K. designed the new location.
The Madison Avenue location is the fifth UGG Australia concept store that J.A. Stowell Construction has managed in 2010. Other locations include Georgetown, Miami Beach, Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
Report: Wal-Mart sees big opportunities in emerging markets
New York – Wal-Mart Stores sees more opportunity in emerging markets than in Europe, the company’s international CEO Doug McMcMillion told Bloomberg.
“China is top of the list, and Brazil is not far behind” to make deals, McMillon said in an interview on Bloomberg Television’s “InBusiness With Margaret Brennan.” The retailer is being “patient” about finding the right way to expand in Russia, McMillon said.
Wal-Mart plans to let South Africa’s Massmart Holdings Lts. lead its expansion in the sub-Saharan region, according to the report. Wal-Mart will seek to buy 51% of the Johannesburg-based company.
