Best Buy exchanges gift certificates for iPads

BY Dan Berthiaume

Minneapolis – Today and tomorrow, Best Buy is running a special promotion where consumers can bring in a working iPad 2 or third-generation iPad and receive a gift card worth $200 or more depending on model and condition of the iPad. As reported by All Things D, returns must be performed at a Best Buy store location and the gift card will be good for in-store or online Best Buy purchases.

All traded-in iPads will be recycled. While Best Buy has not yet issued a formal press release, a company spokesperson told All Things D that Best Buy launched this promotion based on the success of a similar iPhone trade-in event last month and may run similar promotions in the future for devices such as the Samsung Galaxy.

Sport Chalet leverages triathlon partnership to boost traffic

BY CSA STAFF

LOS ANGELES — Specialty sporting goods retailer Sport Chalet is teaming up with California Triathlon, a statewide network of triathlon clubs in California, as part of its strategy to position itself as a one-stop shopping destination for triathletes.

The partnership drives foot traffic into Sport Chalet’s brick-and-mortar stores by encouraging members of the various participating triathlon clubs to turn to the retailer for the equipment and gear they need.

"Together we plan to provide a one-stop shop for clubs and individuals who want to participate in triathlons throughout California," said Craig Levra, chairman and CEO of Sport Chalet. "Each of our store locations is equipped with seasoned experts who can provide advice for training and competing, while helping guide beginner triathletes quickly and safely through their experiences."

In addition to California Triathlon’s efforts to promote a healthy and active lifestyle, the community-based organization supports a number of nonprofit organizations that invite people to exercise for a cause — which translates into yet another source of potential consumers for Sport Chalet.

"Sport Chalet’s broad retail footprint, including the company’s newest Figat7th location in Los Angeles, provides the perfect stage to serve the multisport fanatic," said Thom Richmond, president of California Triathlon Network. "Sport Chalet’s vast assortment of swimming, cycling and running gear is further augmented by the team’s proven counsel in knowing the right products and how to use them effectively. Our shared vision is to increase triathlon participation and remove any barriers of entry to support sport engagement among Californians."

Sport Chalet is full service specialty sporting goods retailer featuring the industry’s top sports brands in apparel, footwear and sports equipment. Founded in 1959 by Norbert Olberz, the company has 53 stores in Arizona, California, Nevada and Utah, as well as its e-commerce site. It offers more than 50 specialty services for the sports enthusiast, including online same day delivery, climbing, backcountry skiing, ski mountaineering, avalanche education, and mountain trekking instruction, car rack installation, snowboard and ski rental and repair, Scuba training and certification, Scuba boat charters, team sales, gait analysis, baseball/softball glove steaming and lacing, racquet stringing, and bicycle tune-up and repair at its store locations.
