Borders U.K. CEO Steps Down
London David Roche, the CEO of Borders U.K., has stepped down. The reason for his departure was not cited in reports.
Philip Downer, who previously served as managing director for the company, will replace him.
Borders U.K. reported a same-store sales increase of 2.9% for the period between Dec. 2, 2007 and Jan. 5.
Staples, Inc. Names Senior VP
Framingham, Mass. Staples has appointed Mark Mettler to senior VP, general merchandising manager, consumer technology and seasonal supplies.
Mettler previously served as VP, general merchandise manager at Sears Roebuck and Co. He joined Sears in 1993 and assumed increasing levels of responsibility for merchandising across product categories.
Advance Appoints CEO
Rosemont, Ill.-based Advance announced the appointment of Pieter de Haan as CEO, effective Jan. 1. De Haan succeeds retiring CEO Brian Dundon.
Since first joining the Philips Lighting organization in 1982, de Haan held successive roles throughout Philips Lighting in Europe and Asia and has amassed over 25 years of experience in manufacturing, supply, marketing, sales, and general management. Prior to his appointment to CEO of Advance, de Haan served as CEO of Philips Lighting East Asia, based in Shanghai.
De Haan succeeds the retiring Brian Dundon, who served as CEO of Advance from 2002 to 2007.
