Caribou Coffee no longer to open shops inside J.C. Penney

BY Katherine Boccaccio

Minneapolis — A Friday report by Bloomberg said that coffee purveyor Caribou Coffee has lost interest in opening shops inside J.C. Penney Co. stores.

The revelation comes just six months after Penney CEO Ron Johnson announced Caribou Coffee as a potential partner.

Caribou CEO Mike Tattersfield said in a Friday emailed statement that the company “does not have plans to move forward with a partnership at this time.” Tattersfield has not elaborated on the reasons for the change of heart.

Caribou was acquired earlier this year by Joh. A. Benckiser Group, and the Penney in-store cafes were expected to help hasten the company’s expansion.

JCP the Upscale store, do you want coffee with that?
JCP needs to just go away, Penny's is gone! Replaced with JohnsonCP. That Martha Stewart trial showed what old smiling Square and Fair Ron is really like, his mother must be proud. Not sure why anyone would want that cheesy chinese crap of hers anyway. That coffee company has divorced themselves of JCP, it will not be going in, guess Ron will have one of those roaming, 1 per 5 mini stores, check out clerks/restocker/customer service rep/catch all, making coffee on their break for a cardboard coffee stand. Ron replaced, good long term value, with thin fad throw away goods. Given that Stewart trial I wouldn't think any company would sign a contract with Ron, if Ron doesn't like it, he just redefines the English language. Ron seems to be pulling the wool over the eyes of its upscale customers, Here you go, Joe Fresh, this thin , poor looking stuff when in, a little info "The line is available at over 300 Canadian supermarkets and superstores, in addition to a number of stand-alone locations". A design to compete, under sale Walmart who is moving into Canada." http://www.canada.com/story_print.html?id=e8649e7b-d0b5-43c7-a86c-061ed3638fb9&sponsor= Basically Joe Fresh is a cheaper in-house brand for a Canadian Walmart like store. Youbetcha, JCP is upscale, LOL, if I were Caribou coffee I wouldn't want to be in a JCP. Good to see Caribou did its homework, saved its image. Ron is amazing isn't he, JCP is just a hype machine. You can not use cell phone, tablet, computer dazzle to sell cheaply made clothing in bright light.

Reports: Costco to expand headquarters

BY Alaric Dearment

New York — Costco Wholesale Corp. will expand its Issaquah, Wash., headquarters, according to published reports on Friday.

The Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce reported Friday that Issaquah’s director of economic development, Keith Niven, said the club retailer would expand the headquarters to take up as much as 1.5 million sq. ft.

The Tacoma, Wash., News Tribune reported that the company currently takes up three buildings that are full.

The plan comes on the heels of announced second quarter 2013 sales that increased 8% and profits that increased to $547 million, from $394 million last year, meeting or exceeding Wall Street analysts’ estimates.
