City Sports opening 11,000-sq.-ft. store in Manhattan

Boston — City Sports announced that it will open its 22nd retail location in New York City, on March 26. It will be City Sports’ third location in New York City.

The new store, in the city’s financial district, will be the company’s largest retail location to date, with nearly 11,000 sq. ft. of selling space devoted to athletic apparel, footwear and equipment.

"We are absolutely thrilled to be opening a third retail location in New York City," said City Sports president and CEO Edward Albertian.

The shoe floor will be a key focal point of the new location sporting over 300 styles of footwear and a full staff to perform customer gait analysis and custom fittings. Other key highlights will include a full service racquet sports department that will offer demo racquets and free stringing for City Sports Insiders. Additionally, the store will feature an open floor plan to allow for easier navigation as well as iPads, which will be exclusively available for customers to shop or research products at citysports.com.

City Sports operates 21 stores across the East Coast.

Wendy’s to expand into Ecuador

Dublin, Ohio — The Wendy’s Co. announced Tuesday an agreement with The Eljuri Group to develop 20 Wendy’s restaurants in Ecuador.

As the largest business group in Ecuador, Eljuri said it expects to open the first two Wendy’s locations in 2013 in Guayaquil, a coastal city with a population of 2.3 million people.

"This is an important step in our continued momentum in the Latin America and Caribbean region, where we have a growing presence of franchise restaurants in 17 countries and U.S. territories," said Darrell van Ligten , president, International, Wendy’s.

Rappaport and Principal form JV partnership to acquire Mid-Atlantic assets

Washington, D.C. — The Rappaport Cos. and Principal Real Estate Investors announced a joint venture to acquire retail assets throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

The program launched with the recapitalization of approximately 1 million sq. ft. of retail space in four retail centers located in Northern Virginia.

"The synergies and capacities of TRC and Principal Real Estate Investors will enable the partnership to aggressively acquire, develop, lease and manage quality retail assets across the risk spectrum," said Patti Earnest, managing director of PRC and a member of the team advising TRC in the transaction.

Rappaport will provide property management, leasing, marketing and renovation/construction management services for centers the partnership acquires or develops.
