DemandTec acquires assets of applied intelligence solutions
San Mateo, Calif. — DemandTec, the collaborative optimization network for retailers and consumer products companies, announced that it has acquired substantially all of the assets of Applied Intelligence Solutions, LLC (AIS), a developer of intelligent software solutions for the retail enterprise with a specific focus on softline retailers.
With this transaction, DemandTec has secured intellectual property applying complex pattern recognition techniques to softline and other short lifecycle retail categories. Additionally, the transaction brings to DemandTec industry expertise in software application development for retail softlines.
Dollar General to open 625 stores, add 6,000 jobs in 2011
Goodlettsville, Tenn. — Building on its plans to open 625 new stores in fiscal 2011, Dollar General Corp. announced that it will create 6,000 new jobs. The new stores and jobs will be spread among Dollar General’s existing 35-state operating area, as well as three new states: Connecticut, Nevada and New Hampshire.
In addition to 625 new stores, the company plans to remodel or relocate 550 stores.
The anticipated jobs follow two years of positive job growth for the company. From 2009 — 2011, the company will have created more than 15,000 new jobs.
Weis Markets freezing prices for 90 days
SUNBURY, Pa. – Weis Markets has announced that it has lowered the prices on 2,400 staple items, and that it will freeze the prices of these products for 90 days through April 2.
"Our 90-day price freeze program continues to make sense in a slow growth economy impacted by high unemployment in most of the markets we serve," said David Hepfinger, Weis Markets president and CEO. "It has been a great program for our customers. Over the past two years, our price freeze program has helped our customers save more than $6 million and we hope to save them more money in 2011."
