Destination Maternity superstore format in Canadian debut

Philadelphia — Destination Maternity Corp. on Thursday opened the first Destination Maternity superstore location in Canada. The 5,000-sq.-ft. store is in Langley, a suburb of Vancouver, B.C.

Along with maternity apparel from Destination Maternity’s namesake and A Pea in the Pod, brands and a wide range of accessories and nursing apparel, the superstore features a relaxation area for family members and friends complete with plush chairs and a flat screen TV; a juice bar; play area for children and a learning studio. The learning studio will partner with Fit 4 Two, a local provider of pre and postnatal fitness classes, and offer weekly and monthly fitness classes and workshops especially for expecting and new moms.

With this opening, Destination Maternity will have a total of 34 retail stores operating throughout Canada.

Signet Jewelers to open 65 to 75 U.S. stores

Hamilton, Bermuda — Signet Jewelers Ltd. reported better-than-expected fourth-quarter results, helped by sales gains at its biggest division, Kay Jewelers. The company, which raised its quarterly dividend by 25%, said it anticipates opening 65 to 75 new U.S. stores for the year. 


Signet, which also operates the Jared chain in the United States and the Ernest Jones stores in Britain, said revenue increased 11.8% to $1.51 billion for the quarter ended Feb. 2.

Same-store sales were up 3.5% in the fourth quarter. Same-store sales at Kay increased 5.8%.

“Our record performance continues to reflect the benefits of our competitive strengths and success of our growth initiatives,” Said Mike Barnes, CEO. “The acquisition of Ultra, our share repurchase program and the increase in our quarterly dividend demonstrate our ability to capitalize on our excellent balance sheet to provide for our long-term growth and increase value for our shareholders.”

GBT Realty launches construction on Village on Pooler Parkway

Nashville, Tenn. — GBT Realty Corp. said Wednesday it has closed on the purchase of approximately 20 acres along Pooler Parkway in Pooler, Ga., for the development of the Village on Pooler Parkway. The development will consist of more than 143,000 sq. ft. when completed in the first quarter of 2014.

The project will be anchored by T.J.Maxx, Ross Dress for Less, Michael’s and PetSmart, all of which have executed leases to be a part of the center. In addition, leases have been signed with Rack Room Shoes, Moe’s Southwest, Jersey Mikes and Palm Beach Tan.

The development also has building pads for freestanding buildings and outparcels. Panera Bread has a lease to locate in a freestanding building with a drive thru. This will be one of the first locations in the market for Panera’s new freestanding prototypes.

In addition, Jalapeños and Aspen Dental have also executed leases to be on building pads within the center.
