Dollar Tree authorizes $1.5 billion buyback

Chesapeake, Va. — Dollar Tree said that its board has approved a $1.5 billion share repurchase program. The company said it has invested more than $1.9 billion for share repurchase since 2003, including $414.7 million in 2010 and $345.9 million in 2011, to date.

“Dollar Tree continues to demonstrate the ability to self-fund growth while generating substantial free cash,” said president and CEO Bob Sasser. “The new share repurchase authorization reflects our commitment to build value for long-term shareholders and our confidence in the future.”

Home Depot names executive VP

Atlanta — The Home Depot announced it has named Teresa Wynn Roseborough executive VP general counsel and corporate secretary, effective in November.

Roseborough, who will be responsible for leading The Home Depot’s legal department, as well as its government relations and corporate security services functions, joins the chain from MetLife, where she most recently served as deputy general counsel.

HSN takes QR to TV

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — HSN is bringing Quick Response (QR) codes to a new shopping frontier by becoming the first retailer to use them on television.

Through Oct. 10 as part of the company’s Innovation Weekend event, HSN will debutQR codes on its HD channel, which currently reaches approximately 43 million households. Customers will be able to scan the QR code of hundreds of products, the company said, giving them access the product information page on their mobile device, learn more about the product and purchase with ease.

"Innovation is an integral part of our company, whether it’s the innovative products we present or the groundbreaking ways we use on-air QR codes to engage and interact with our customers," said Jill Braff, EVP digital commerce at HSN. "Women turn to HSN’s trusted experts to educate and empower them to make informed purchases. Top electronics brands like Sony, Microsoft and Samsung recognize the power of HSN to introduce new technologies and we look forward to the products they will be debuting during our Innovation Weekend event."
