Duxiana to open in Flatiron District

BY Katherine Boccaccio

New York — RKF has arranged a 1,900-sq.-ft. lease with high-end bedding retailer Duxiana at 9 West 20th Street in the Flatiron District. Located on the north block between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, this will become Sweden-based Duxiana’s third Manhattan location, and marks the brand’s return to the Flatiron District after a previous relocation.

RKF executive VP Gary Alterman, senior director Ross Berkowitz and associate Brandon Berger represented the owner, Jumi W. 20 LLC, in the transaction, while Ryan Gessin of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank represented Duxiana.

“We specifically targeted home furnishings brands for this space because we felt they would add great synergies with the tenants currently on the block,” said Alterman. “While the Fifth Avenue corridor of the Flatiron District is geared more toward fashion and beauty, the side streets between Fifth and Sixth Avenues are filling up with boutique fitness studios and home furnishing stores that are looking to capitalize on the shopper traffic from Fifth and the dense residential community along Sixth.”

Scheduled to open later this year, Duxiana will occupy the ground level of the 11-story, 25,000-sq.-ft. property. Duxiana will share the block with nearby home furnishings co-tenants Lillian August, NY Loft Kitchens & Home Interiors, LV Wood, ModShop and Beckenstein Fabric and Interiors.

Ohio companies team toward new restaurant concept

BY Katherine Boccaccio

Youngstown, Ohio — AVI Foodsystems and Cafaro Co. have teamed to bring Bob Evans Farms into the mall food court environment.

Warren, Ohio-based AVI collaborated with Bob Evans Farms to introduce Bob Evans Express, which scales down the traditional Bob Evans restaurant into a concept that works in venues such as workplace cafes, airports, travel plazas and universities.

The first food court version will open at Cafaro’s Millcreek Mall in Erie, Pennsylvania. Construction of the new Bob Evans Express restaurant will begin within the next 30 days and it will open by October of this year.

BEX offers a menu of Bob Evans’ favorites in a compact format. At 800-1,000 sq. ft., the new BEX locations are designed to feel like freestanding Bob Evans restaurants with traditional touches including a bakery area, while an optimized floor plan will provide quick and efficient service.
