Englewood Construction completes Wild-West styled restaurant project

BY Marianne Wilson

Chicago — Englewood Construction’s restaurant group has completed Williston Brewing Co., an upscale restaurant and lounge in booming Williston, N.D.

“Williston Brewing Co. provides a much-needed dining and entertainment option for oil field workers and their families,” said William Di Santo, president of Lemont, Ill.-based Englewood Construction. “We’ve been fortunate to take part in the area’s commercial construction boom sparked by North Dakota’s oil rush.”

In addition to serving as the general contractor, Englewood Construction also assisted in the value-added design of the $5.2 million interior build-out to create a modern Western-themed dining destination. The 12,000-sq.-ft. space is attached to the 92-room El Rancho Hotel and features wood floors, stone fireplaces and exposed brick. The owners’ big game trophies mounted on the walls and cow-hide leather chairs enhance the western decor.

Owned by Williston Holding Co. and designed by Minneapolis-based Studio M. Architects, the restaurant seats approximately 335 people in a variety of unique spaces. A huge bar with 40 beers on tap in the center of the restaurant features an artistic counter made from a giant redwood tree and 24 televisions including three with 90-inch screens.

A 21-and-over section houses a stage, mechanical bull and gaming tables. The restaurant’s Buffalo Room provides an intimate setting with leather chairs and sofas, and showcases a glass-enclosed wall with a 3,000-bottle upscale wine selection.

Twenty business owners in total were recognized at a ceremony on Sept. 11 hosted by The Daily Herald Business Ledger. The EEAs were presented for the 14th consecutive year, and approximately 160 people were in attendance at the event.

“After 40 years as an entrepreneur, I have learned valuable lessons; perhaps the greatest of all, to hire people smarter than me. I trust my employees to do as good or a better job than I could do myself,” stated Alan Rose, CEO.

The EEAs recognized outstanding entrepreneurship in suburban Chicago. The seven categories for awards were early stage, growth, innovation, outstanding service to entrepreneurs, young entrepreneur (under age 40), regional spirit, and lifetime achievement.

RadioShack opens two additional new concept stores in Manhattan

BY Marianne Wilson

New York — RadioShack unveiled a store remodeled to its new high-touch format, in Manhattan, with an additional Big Apple location set to open on Oct. 12. The format incorporates interactive areas designed to help shoppers improve their technology profile. The chain premiered the design in July, on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

Features of RadioShack’s updated design include:

Newly configured displays highlighting in-demand brands like Apple, HTC and Samsung, as well as mobile carriers such as AT&T, Sprint and Verizon;

Store fixtures that enable shoppers to find and compare products, including a “Speaker Wall” that allows customers to demo speakers by playing music from their own Bluetooth-enabled mobile devices;

Technology that makes shopping interesting and playful, like touchscreens and apps that help shoppers understand the benefits of products;

In addition to the Manhattan locations, RadioShack has also opened new concept locations in nearby Jersey City, N.J., and in Southampton on Long Island.

Radio Shack’s Manhattan Mall location was also remodeled this summer as one of its new, scalable "brand statement" stores, which feature many updates inspired by the spirit of the concept stores. The company plans to open or remodel a number of additional New York-area locations by the end of the year.
