Executive changes at Charming Shoppes

Bensalem, Pa. Charming Shoppes reported the appointment of MaryEllen MacDowell as the president of Fashion Bug and the appointment of Laura Johnson as the executive VP merchandising and product development, of Fashion Bug.

MacDowell joined Charming Shoppes in 2002. Since January 2009, she has served as president of the company’s Lane Bryant Outlet division.

Most recently, Johnson held the position of president and CEO of Zac Posen/House of Z LLC, a manufacturer of luxury women’s apparel.

Former Home Depot chief named non-exec chairman at NewPage

Miamisburg, Ohio Coated paper manufacturer NewPage Corp. said Tuesday it has named former head of Chrysler and Home Depot Robert Nardelli as non-executive chairman after the company’s chief executive and also its board chairman resigned.

NewPage did not provide a reason for the departures of CEO E. Thomas Curley and chairman Mark Suwyn. The VP of human resources Michael Edicola also resigned.  

Nardelli is the current chief executive of Cerberus Operating and Advisory Co., which is an affiliate of NewPage’s controlling stockholder.  

Nardelli said in a statement that he will be involved in an ongoing basis as NewPage searches for a new CEO.

7-Eleven deploys Softsave human resources technology

Dallas 7-Eleven is deploying Softscape Inc.’s Softscape for Retail talent management solution to better align and manage its approximately 30,000 employees in the United States and Canada.

Softscape offers comprehensive human capital management solution, providing complete employee-lifecycle management, including a core system of record, in a single platform.

7-Eleven will use Wayland, Mass.-based Softscape’s Retail solution to initially manage performance management, 360 multi-rater feedback, succession planning, compensation management, incentive compensation and workforce analytics.

“In our thorough assessment of available options, we felt the Softscape product was superior, especially related to compensation management,” said Scott Hintz, 7-Eleven’s VP compensation.
