GGP gives shoppers the opportunity to win a new living room set for mom

BY CSA STAFF

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, General Growth Properties teamed up with Broyhill to give shoppers an opportunity to enter a contest to win mom an entire Broyhill living set, valued at more than $4,000. To enter, customers can simply visit a participating mall’s Facebook page and in 150 words or less, tell why “mom” is the best! The grand prize is a seven-piece furniture set, featuring pieces from the Perspectives collection, including a sofa, two chairs, square coffee table and more.

“Throughout the year, we like to offer our shoppers special promotions, contests, retailer coupons, shopping tips, and much more,” said Lesley Cheers, director of public relations, GGP. “It’s just one of many ways we like to say thank you to our loyal customers.”

Participants must be at least 18 years old to enter. Visit local GGP mall websites for complete entry details, judging criteria and official rules. The contest is sponsored by General Growth Management.

GGP also partnered with Steve Kemble, America’s Sassiest Lifestyle Guru and GGP gift-giving expert, to help shoppers find “the” perfect gift for that special lady in our lives.

Keepin’ it Active
Get your mother moving and grooving this Mother’s Day! “Step up” gym shoes help shape and tone legs … and they come in lots of popular brands and fun colors so mom looks fabulous while exercising! A gift-card for a private yoga session also is a great gift idea. It’s low impact on mom but helps her stay long and lean. For another sculpting solution, enroll mom in a local dance class — that’s just the ticket to longer, leaner gams.

Fragrance
Your mother should be the most fabulously smelling lady you know! Make a fun day with mom by visiting a local boutique that lets you mix your own scents together for that perfect one-of-a-kind fragrance! If you’re not in the mood to make your own scent, there are lots of new yummy smelling fragrances out this year by our favorite celebrities, like Jennifer Aniston, Beyoncé and Victoria Beckham, just to name a few. It’s also a great idea to create an attractive home ambiance by purchasing incense or candles — both are decorative and radiate lovely scents.

Pretty Prints
Floral prints and unique graphic designs continue to show up on the runway and in mainstream fashion. Spice it up a bit with bright, bold floral dresses and blouses or fun graphic leggings. These prints are a great way to make a personal statement and capture a double look when stepping in to a room. A picture says a thousands words. Give an image of a beautiful floral arrangement to brighten any space.

Handbags & Accessories
Who else keeps everything in their purse you could ever need but mom? Complete her look with the latest styles in handbags and accessories. Tassels and fringe are particularly trendy this spring. Once thought of as a “hippie” look, tassels and fringe now add a chic style from ladies handbags to fun jewelry designs. Additionally, leather is as timeless as your love for your mom. Consider a handbag ranging from light leather to the deepest shade.

Home

Here is one way your mother can think of you every day! Put some heart into her home with gift ideas that will help mom’s home stay stylish and organized — just the way she likes it! Put a little arm-muscle in your gift by installing a fancy new closet organizer in one of mom’s messiest closet (and it doesn’t have to be the bedroom … it can be the kitchen pantry, hallway closet, etc.). Also, you can help mom give new color to a room without painting the walls! Buy colorful, decorative pillows for the sofa, fun vases, pictures, etc. to help give any room a vibrant, new look! Also, anything for the kitchen is always a welcome addition for mom and can include anything from a dish set to hand towels or even a new stylish coffee pot!

Tech & Phone Accessories
Modern moms will love these practical and fun devices. E-readers are super popular and come in all sizes and price points! Also, since moms like capturing precious moments, buy a pocket-sized video/photo camera that allows you to take great pictures and fits right in your pocket. As a fun way to jazz up any cell phone or lap top, give mom the gift of a fabulous cover, available in fun colors, prints and sparkles. Lastly, let mom download her favorite music and apps by giving her an always popular iTunes gift card!

Give Her the Mall
When you give a mall gift card you give mom the option to decide what she really wants most. She can buy that hot new handbag she’s been eyeing or treat herself to a nice dinner out. Regardless of what she buys, she’ll love getting to splurge.

Mall of America to install LEDs in parking ramps

BY CSA STAFF

Bloomington, Minn. — Mall of America plans to replace 5,400 metal halide and high-pressure sodium fixtures in the parking ramps with specially designed new fixtures LED technology from Acuity Brands. The installation will begin in July. It is part of a multi-faceted sustainability program that will be announced during the coming months. Anticipated completion will be this fall.

"To continue with our dedication to being environmentally responsible, we are thrilled to announce a project of this magnitude," said Rich Hoge, director of technical operations for Mall of America. "It is incredible to be able to reduce our parking ramp energy demand by two-thirds or in excess of an 800KW demand reduction."

This conversion project, the largest of its kind in the United States, will reduce energy consumption in the ramps by two-thirds. The benefits of LED beyond lower energy consumption include better performance in cold temperatures, a life expectancy of more than 50,000 hours, no use of mercury and directional efficiency. LED lamps are also a powerful way to reduce light pollution, which has become a concern across the country.

Since opening, Mall of America has heavily invested in capital and team resources to reduce its operating footprint across many activities. The Mall recycles more than 60% of its waste, an average of 32,000 tons per year.
