Giant Food divisional president departs
Carlisle, Pa. — Ahold USA said that Giant Food of Landover, Md., divisional president Anthony Hucker is leaving his position, effective Sept. 13, to pursue another opportunity.
Ahold USA executive VP operations Bhavdeep Singh will oversee the Giant-Landover division on an interim basis until a permanent replacement is named, the company said.
Hucker was appointed president of Giant-Landover on October 2011, having previously worked at Walmart.
Shopko supports breast cancer research with select ladies merchandise
GREEN BAY, Wis. — Shopko has teamed up with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and apparel company West Coast Novelty Group, one of the organization’s corporate sponsors, to offer an expanded line of Support the Cure merchandise at all Shopko stores.
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation is a nonprofit organization that focuses exclusively on providing necessary funding for doctors and scientists to continue their research toward finding a cure for breast cancer. When customers purchase Support the Cure merchandise at Shopko they will support a donation of $100,000 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation which is being made by West Coast Novelty Group.
Shopko stores will feature Support the Cure-branded apparel for ladies, including graphic short-sleeve and long-sleeve tees as well as socks, hats, bags, drinkware, hoodies and fleece tops, all with the familiar pink ribbon logo. Prices on Shopko’s Support the Cure-branded merchandise range from $3.99 to $24.99.
Support the Cure merchandise will be available from Sept. 15 through Nov. 2 at all Shopko and Shopko Hometown stores and on the company’s e-commerce site.
Shopko operates more than 325 stores in 21 states throughout the Midwest, Mountain, North Central and Pacific Northwest regions. Retail formats include 134 Shopko stores, 176 Shopko Hometown locations, 5 Shopko Express Rx stores and 18 Shopko Pharmacy locations.
Orchard Supply Hardware launches mobile app
SAN JOSE, Calif. — Orchard Supply Hardware has launched a mobile app to mark the company’s 82nd anniversary during its upcoming Founder’s Day weeklong event.

Orchard’s mobile app is designed to help customers shop easier, get how-to advice for their home and garden projects and take advantage of special promotions, including those offered during the Founder’s Day celebration. The app will allow customers to do the following:

• View weekly ads with home improvement ideas and special product offers
• Locate and check-in at Orchard stores
• Earn and redeem Club Orchard points
• Unlock special promotions and discounts
• Share product and promotional information via Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Pinterest
Orchard will kick off its annual Founder’s Day event Sunday, Sept. 8.
Orchard Supply Hardware operates neighborhood hardware and garden stores focused on paint, repair and the backyard. It was founded as a purchasing cooperative in San Jose in 1931 and as of August 30, 2013, operates as a separate, standalone business within Lowe’s. The business, which continues to be based in San Jose, includes 70 stores in California and two in Oregon.
