Harlow joins Circuit City as evp, coo

RICHMOND, Va. Circuit City Stores today announced that John Harlow has joined the company as evp and coo. Harlow will oversee the company’s retail stores, real estate, Information Technology and supply chain.

Harlow was most recently a retail director with Deloitte Consulting LLP and has been involved with Circuit City over the past year. Prior to joining Deloitte, Harlow was senior vp of operations for the A&P U.S. division of The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company. Prior to joining A&P, Harlow was corporate vp of administration for Toys “R” Us.  

“John’s valuable retail experience and specific insights into Circuit City’s business will enable him to act effectively to generate improved performance at Circuit City,” said Philip Schoonover, chairman, president and ceo of Circuit City Stores. “John will focus on retail execution, profitable sales improvement, improving the customer experience, and implementing new systems for long-term sustainable earnings growth. John’s extensive knowledge and management skills make him uniquely suited to advance our turnaround and financial performance.”

Bass joins Tractor Supply board of directors

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. Tractor Supply Company today announced that William Bass has been appointed to the company’s board of directors.

Bass co-founded and currently serves as ceo for Fair Indigo, a direct response men’s and women’s apparel retailer formed on the premise of “fair trade.” Prior to that, he held several management positions with Sears, Roebuck & Company and was responsible for leading the e- commerce initiatives for Sears Customer Direct and Lands’ End, where he grew landsend.com from $60 million in annual sales to more than $550 million.

Nintendo names new Latin America head

REDMOND, Wash. Nintendo of America announced the appointment of Bill Van Zyll as director and general manager of Latin America, effective immediately.

Van Zyll heads Nintendo of America’s Latin America department, which is responsible for the creation, direction and implementation of short- and long-term sales, marketing, and operational strategies for Latin America.

Before joining Nintendo, Van Zyll was with Whirlpool for more than 15 years, where for the past four years he has served as director of finance for sales for the company’s North American region.
