Hart Stores Inc. Announces New Board of Director Member
Montreal, Hart Stores Inc. announced that J. Pierre Brunet, Ph.D., has joined its board of directors.
Brunet is currently a member of a number of advisory boards and chairman of the board’s PEAK Financial Group Inc., in charge of managing strategic growth and organization issues. The company also announced that as part of its focused expansion plan it would open two new stores in Ontario by the end of March 2006.
Pacific Sunwear Announces CEO Retirement
Anaheim, Calif., Pacific Sunwear of California, Inc. announced that the company’s chairman of the board, Greg H. Weaver, will retire, effective April 1, 2006.Weaver, who served as CEO from 1996 to 2000, has been a part of the company since its public debut in 1993. He became executive chairman in April 2005 for a limited time to provide a period of transition and to work on new business development, he said. “Now that our One Thousand Steps concept is ready to launch, this is the appropriate time for me to step down,” Weaver said.
The Home Depot Sends Record Number of Associates to Olympics
Atlanta, The Home Depot announced Wednesday that a record 33 associates will compete and represent TEAM USA in the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy this February.
The Home Depot athletes will participate in such sports as luge, bobsled, freestyle skiing, speed, skating and curling.
The Home Depot sponsors the U.S. Olympic Committee’s Olympic Job Opportunities Program (OJOP), allowing Olympic athletes and hopefuls to work part-time for full-time compensation and benefits.
Since 1992, the company’s associates have accounted for nearly 11% of all medals won by Team USA. Today, more than 200 Olympic and Paralympic athletes are employed by the retailer.
