Hollister fires models for insulting Asians at South Korea store opening

New York — Hollister has fired three male models it flew in for the grand opening store of its first store in South Korea after the models mocked Asians in photos and on their social media accounts, according to various media reports.

During the models’ gig from Aug. 30 to Sept. 2, they tweeted photos of themselves making squinty eyes, mocking their Asian fans’ accents and engaging in other offensive behavior such as flipping off the camera. A spokesman for Hollister parent company Abercrombie & Fitch said that the models were fired after the company investigated the incident, the New York Daily News reported.

“We do not tolerate inappropriate or offensive behavior on the part of our associates,” the spokesman said. “On behalf of our more than 80,000 associates around the world who cherish our core values and our culture of diversity and inclusion, we sincerely apologize for the offense caused by these unauthorized, ill-considered actions.”

Charlotte Russe selects Micros-Retail for omnichannel solution

Westborough, Mass. — Apparel retailer Charlotte Russe has selected Micros Retail, a division of Micros Systems Inc., to develop and build a robust omnichannel solution as part of a revamp of its retail systems.

“When searching for a best-of-breed platform for our online business, we decided to partner with Micros-Retail because their omnichannel solution covered all of our needs,” said Kim Miller, senior VP e-commerce, Charlotte Russe, operates more than 500 stores throughout 45 states and Puerto Rico. “Micros-Retail’s omnichannel solution will allow us to deliver strong business growth while providing a unified experience for our customers across all channels.”

Micros -Retail will help Charlotte Russe build a targeted, multichannel solution for reaching its desired demographic of millenials, according to a press release.

Casey’s profit slips in Q1 but beats Street

Ankeny, Iowa — C-store operator Casey’s General Stores Inc. reported Monday a profit of $39 million in the quarter ended July 31, compared with a profit of $39.4 million last year.

Results beat Wall Street expectations, although flat revenue of $1.87 billion missed forecasts of $1.93 billion in sales.

During the quarter, Casey’s completed 26 major remodels, and told Wall Street it would continue its remodeling program in fiscal 2013. President and CEO Robert J. Myers said the plan is to increase store counts by 4% to 6% annually. “We still expect to meet this goal by the end of the fiscal year,” said Myers.

Casey’s said it has 18 new stores under construction and 27 stores under written agreement to purchase.
