Home Depot Names New Board Member
Atlanta The Home Depot Inc. said on Friday that it has named Brian C. Cornell to its board. Cornell is the CEO of Michaels Stores Inc.
Cornell joined Michaels in June after serving as the executive VP and chief marketing officer of Safeway Inc. He also serves on the board of OfficeMax.
Cornell’s appointment raises the number of members on Home Depot’s board to 14, with 13 of them being outside directors, the company said.
Wal-Mart Vice Chairman Retires
Bentonville, Ark. John Menzer, vice chairman of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., announced that he will retire from the company on March 1.
Menzer began his Wal-Mart career in 1995 as the company’s CFO and was promoted to president and CEO of Wal-Mart International in 1999.
Zale Adds Activist Shareholder to Board
Dallas Zale Corp. said Friday it named Richard Breeden and another Breeden Capital Management partner to its board, three days after the investor group raised its stake in the retailer.
Zale added Breeden, a former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission and Breeden Capital Management CEO and CIO, and James M. Cotter, a founding partner of Breeden Capital Management, to bring the total number of board members to eight.
Zale also said that it is seeking an additional independent director to bring the board to its full size of nine directors.
