ICSC’s U.S. Design and Development Award winners are …
New York — The annual ICSC U.S. Design and Development Awards competition focuses on four general categories: Innovative Design and Construction of a New Project; Renovation or Expansion of an Existing Project; Sustainable Design; and Retail Store Design.
The 2013 gold winners in the New Development category are City Creek Center, Salt Lake City, and Mosaic District, Fairfax, Va.
In the Renovations and Expansions, the silver winner is: Cross County Shopping Center, Yonkers, N.Y.
In the Retail Store Design category, silver winners are: Double Wide Grill, Mars, Pa.; Aéropostale, Roosevelt Field Mall, Garden City, N.Y.; iPic Theaters and Tanzy Restaurant, Boca Raton, Fla.; Graff Diamonds, San Francisco, and Sport Chalet, Los Angeles. The gold winner in Retail Store Design category is Hakkasan, N.Y.
Several projects also won Sustainable Design awards, and the gold winners in this category are: City Creek Center, Salt Lake City; and Mosaic District, Fairfax, Va. The silver winner is Liberty Plaza, Randallstown, Md.
ICSC announced the winners of the 2013 U.S. Design and Development Awards during an awards ceremony at ICSC’s Retail Green and CenterBuild Conference in Phoenix, Ariz.

All 2013 Design Award winners are automatically eligible to win ICSC’s VIVA Best of the Best Award. The ICSC VIVA Best of the Best Awards, which recognize the shopping center industry’s most cutting-edge properties, innovative solutions and creative responses to market trends, throughout the world, will be presented during ICSC’s annual convention, RECon, May 18-20, 2014 in Las Vegas.
PizzaRev to open in Burbank, Calif.
Los Angeles — PizzaRev has completed construction on its sixth location and will open in Burbank, Calif., on Dec. 12. PizzaRev uses custom-built 9,600-pound stone-bed “Fire-Deck” ovens to fry pizzas in less than three minutes.
Longtime entertainment industry executives Irv Zuckerman and Rodney Eckerman, who bring Fortune 500 executive operating experience to the young chain, founded PizzaRev in 2012. Under their leadership, PizzaRev recently announced a strategic partnership with Buffalo Wild Wings. That chain will open the first PizzaRev franchise location in early 2014.
PizzaRev has also announced plans to add new company-owned locations in Van Nuys, Mid-City LA, Pasadena and Valencia in early 2014. PizzaRev’s existing five locations are in Studio City, Woodland Hills, Northridge, El Segundo and Oxnard.
New fashion retailers sashay into Westfield Garden State Plaza

Paramus, N.J. — Westfield Garden State Plaza has announced the line-up of retailers for the center’s new premium fashion district. Set to open in March, the district will welcome Tory Burch, Vince Camuto, Maje, Sandro, Triumph Intimate Apparel, Scotch & Soda, A/X Armani Exchange, Ivivva by lululemon, Invicta, Robin’s Jean, Urban Outfitters, Kiko Make Up Milano, Lush, Havaianas and Forever Flawless.
Technology giant Microsoft and The Kase will also join the district.
New tastes and eateries include Au Bon Pain, Max Brenner Chocolate Café, and Starbucks. These new retailers continue to add to Westfield Garden State Plaza’s point of difference within the marketplace and for Bergen County’s sophisticated shoppers.
The new fashion district will be located adjacent to Neiman Marcus, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and the latest addition to compliment the retail mix, Tiffany & Co., which opened in August.
The new district will bring Westfield Garden State Plaza up to 2.1 million sq. ft. of leasable space and more than 300 stores and restaurants.
