J. C. Penney Names Marketing Director
Plano, Texas, J. C. Penney Co. has appointed Ruby Anik director of brand marketing and senior VP. Anik comes to the company from Best Buy Co., where she oversaw marketing communications as a senior VP. She joined Best Buy in 2000 and has spent 25 years in marketing.
Anik will be responsible for ensuring J. C. Penney’s marketing consistently reflects its strategy and style. She will report to chief marketing officer Mike Boylson.
Former CEO of Walmart.com to Head NetShops
Omaha, Neb., NetShops Inc., a developer and operator of specialty niche e-commerce Web sites, announced Thursday the appointment of Carter Cast as CEO. He most recently served as president and CEO of Walmart.com, which he helped launch in 2000 and develop into one of the highest volume e-commerce sites in the world. Prior to Walmart.com, Cast was a member of the start-up team for Blue Nile.
“Online shopping is continuing to grow at a double-digit rate as consumers increasingly turn to the Internet to find both common and out-of-the-ordinary products,” Cast said. “NetShops’ unique business model of creating hundreds of niche, specialty e-commerce stores offers consumers significantly more choice than any physical retailer can.”
Doug Nielsen, co-founder and president/CEO of NetShops, will assume the title of chairman.
Home Depot Marketing Chief Resigns
Atlanta, Home Depot Inc. said on Wednesday that its chief marketing officer, Roger Adams, has resigned to pursue other opportunities.
Chairman and chief executive Frank Blake announced the departure of Adams in an internal memo. He didn’t elaborate on the reasons or say what Adams plans to do next.
Adams joined the home improvement chain in February 2005 as senior VP of marketing and was named chief marketing officer in October 2006. He is credited with spearheading Home Depot’s multi-year sponsorship of the National Football League and the company’s True Stories campaign, which features testimonials from actual customers.
John Ross, VP of advertising, has been named interim chief of Home Depot’s marketing unit.
In an unrelated development, the company also reported the theft of a laptop computer containing data for about 10,000 employees.
The files in the laptop varied and may have contained name, address and social security numbers of employees, according to reports.
