Kohl’s opens three stores, remodels 30

Menomonee Falls, Wis. – Kohl’s Department Stores announced it is opening three stores on Friday, with locations in Hyannis, Mass., Keene, N.H., and Michigan City, Ind. The company also said it is remodeling 30 locations this fall.

Kohl’s new Michigan City location was built according to a prototype that received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification at the Gold level, and the store will pursue LEED certification in the coming months. The retailer currently has more than 350 LEED-certified locations nationwide. Features of Kohl’s LEED stores include use of more than 20% recycled and 20% regionally sourced (by cost) building materials, use of cool white Energy Star-rated roofs and water-efficient landscaping and plumbing fixtures, among many other attributes.

The Hyannis, Mass., store will have one electric vehicle (EV) charging station with two parking spaces for customers to charge at no cost while they shop. With this addition, the company has approximately 70 locations nationwide with EV charging stations.

Kohl’s new and remodeled locations feature the company’s latest store enhancements and design, including updated check-out stations, newly designed shopping carts and strollers, redesigned fitting rooms and beauty department, fitting room lounges in misses and juniors, an expanded customer service area located at the front of the store, electronic signs in all departments, free Wi-Fi throughout the store and Kohl’s kiosks, which allow customers to choose from an expanded assortment of styles, sizes, colors and merchandise and offer free standard shipping in the U.S. on items ordered.

Report: Foxwoods plans retail center

Mashnatucket, Conn. — Foxwoods Resort Casino is reportedly building a 300,000-sq.-ft. retail center that will house outlet shops. According to the Associated Press, Foxwoods is partnering with Tanger Factory Outlet Centers Inc. to create a Tanger Outlets complex that will feature more than 80 retailers, including American Eagle Outfitters, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Calvin Klein and Nike.

The retail center will reportedly cost $115 million to develop and is expected to open in late 2014 or early 2015, depending on weather. The center will connect two casino floors that draw 10 to 15 million customers a year. Construction is expected to create 400 jobs and about 900 full- and part-time retail jobs are expected once the center opens. It is also expected to generate more than $10 million in annual state sales tax revenue.

"I call this entertainment for the non-gambling spouse," said Steven B. Tanger, president and CEO of Tanger Factory Outlet Centers Inc.

MinuteClinic enters Hawaii

Woonsocket, R.I. — MinuteClinic, a division of CVS Caremark Corporation, will open today its first walk-in medical clinic in Hawaii at the Longs Drug store on South King Street in Honolulu near the University of Hawaii, Manoa. It is the first of seven MinuteClinic locations to open inside select Longs Drug stores on Oahu in the next two weeks.

Additional clinics will serve patients in Aiea, Hawaii Kai, Kailua, Kaneohe, Kapolei and Waialae.

"We are thrilled to bring MinuteClinic to Hawaii, our first new state in five years and the first of three new states in 2013," said Nancy Gagliano, M.D., chief medical officer of MinuteClinic. "We believe MinuteClinic can be part of the solution to help broaden access to high quality, convenient and affordable health care services on Oahu."
