Kum & Go opens larger store in Wyoming

West Des Moines, Iowa — C-store operator Kum & Go said Friday it has opened a new store in Gillette, Wyoming. The previous store was razed in July 2012 to make room for the all-new Kum & Go store design.

The nearly 5,000-sq.-ft. store introduces many new features both inside and outside the buildings. Inside, customers will find a larger product selection, a center checkout area with customer-focused staff, and an expanded Go Fresh Market.

Outside, a larger number of fueling positions, as well more variety in fuel offerings, give customers more choices and value at the pump.

“This store layout has been designed with our customers in mind,” said president and CEO Kyle J. Krause.

The new design also demonstrates a strong emphasis on sustainability. Kum & Go designs and constructs the stores with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification in mind, submitting each for LEED certification.

Sustainable features of the newest Kum & Go store include Solatube skylights, LED lighting both inside and outside the store, low-flow water efficient fixtures, and high energy-efficiency equipment. Each store is built using recyclable materials and locally sourced materials.

GGP plays Santa with ‘12 Days of Gifts’ sweepstakes

Chicago-based General Growth Properties has unveiled a major holiday mall-marketing program, offering up $30,000 worth of prizes for shoppers nationwide.

Coined the 12.12.12 Days of Gifts, the national sweepstakes launches Dec. 1 and continues through Dec. 12, prompting shoppers to visit their local GGP mall’s website or Facebook page for a chance to win a prize each day. The grand prize is a $12,000 Shop Etc. Gift Card.

“This year’s holiday sweepstakes is a fun one with amazing prizes, featuring some of the hottest gifts of the season available at GGP malls,” said Keith Maladra, VP digital marketing, GGP. “We’re also engaging with our shoppers across all digital platforms to bring them the latest sales, events and gift ideas via our mall websites, Facebook, The Club App, Twitter and Pinterest.”

Winners will be drawn for all entries received nationally and will be notified on or around Dec. 15.

Walgreens opens Los Angeles flagship; store is chain’s 8,000th location

Deerfield, Ill. — Walgreens on Saturday will officially open its 8,000th store nationwide and its first flagship on the West Coast. The store, located in Los Angeles at the iconic corner of Sunset and Vine, features an extensive collection of innovative offerings, products and services, many of which are not standard fare.

The expanded features will include a LOOK Boutique beauty department. Britain’s leading skincare brand, No7, created by Boots, will be available in a Walgreens store for the first time. (The availability of No7 products at this Walgreens follows the strategic partnership between Walgreens and Alliance Boots, the leading international pharmacy-led health and beauty group.)

The department also will have specially-trained beauty advisors, including a No7 beauty advisor, on hand to offer guidance finding the best solutions for individual needs. Expert shaping and grooming services will be available at the Eyebrow Bar.

Other features include:

  • An enhanced, state-of-the-art pharmacy designed to encourage greater interaction between pharmacists and patients. Team member “health guides” will help pharmacy customers navigate a wide range of health and wellness products, services and resources including immunizations and health tests. The pharmacy also features an “Ask Your Pharmacist” desk, consultation rooms and Express Rx kiosks for swift checkout.
  • A juice and smoothie bar featuring fresh fruits and vegetables included in the 24 distinct recipes available. Customers can also enjoy eight flavors of self-serve frozen yogurt accompanied by an enticing toppings bar.
  • Hundreds of fresh food items including produce and high-quality, on-the-go meal options such as wraps, sandwiches and salads made fresh daily.
  • A best-in-class wine selection boasting more than 700 fine wines that will pair well with the store’s assortment of artisan and brie cheeses as well as specialty meats, decadent chocolates and more. A Beverage Wizard kiosk provides food and beverage pairing recommendations.
