Last Call by Neiman Marcus to make California market debut

Ontario, Calif. — Last Call by Neiman Marcus will open a first-to-market store in May 2012 at Ontario Mills, a Simon-owned property that is the largest outlet and value retail shopping destination in California with more than 200 stores.

Last Call, which will occupy almost 21,000 sq. ft. in Neighborhood 6, will be a lead component of the second phase of redevelopment at the outlet destination. It will join other outlet stores including DKNY Company Store, Lacoste Outlet, Calvin Klein, Polo Ralph Lauren Factory Store, Tommy Bahama Outlet, Coach Factory Store and more.

Other recent store additions include Rockport Outlet Store, Puma Outlet and Ghirardelli Chocolate. Plus, G by Guess, and the first-in-market Under Armour Factory House are scheduled to join the retail mix later this year.

An expanded Aeropostale is now open, along with an expanded Burlington Coat Factory, which increased from 80,000 sq. ft. to 112,000 sq. ft., and Forever 21, which grew from 13,000 sq. ft. to 54,000 sq. ft.

I have always believed that investments in Hillview Peak condo and condominiums is always a better choice than any other forms of investment. Not only can the investor leverage on his investment, he can always stay in the unit should he decide not to rent out the unit. Investing in stocks, gold etc has really no tangible benefits on your investment. Thats just my 2 cents thought though. Thank you author for the informative writeup. Hillview Peak

Infill Alert: Five Tips for Preventing Flooring Failure

Taking over an existing retail space can be a good move, as long as you have all the facts from the get-go, especially with regard to the floor. Lee Eliseian, president of Independent Floor Testing & Inspection, offers the following tips to prevent flooring issues from arising:

  • Understand that existing spaces present different risk conditions than new facilities. The unknowns – such as age of building, prior use and quality of construction – can present a variety of flooring risk failures.
  • Understand that most problems are preventable. Knowing up front the condition of the floor can reduce or even eliminate more problems down the road.
  • Assess the condition by conducting a floor survey. A survey should include valuation of the substrate and moisture testing to provide a complete picture of the conditions, the risks and recommended repair routes. “Advance knowledge via floor assessment can cost-effectively reduce risk for flooring problems as well as provide opportunity for potential financial mitigation by the landlord,” Eliseian saud.
  • Put a plan into place to address any underlying floor conditions. Ensure proper preparation of the floor, proper application and installation, and timely maintenance to dramatically increase the chances of a successful end result.
  • Post-opening fixes are the most expensive. Uncovering, and repairing, a flooring problem after the store is open can require a store to be under construction for a period of time – resulting in lost revenues – as well as entail costly demolition.

“The flooring survey will uncover many flooring issues,” Eliseian explained. “Sometimes further testing is required which can be evasive and require core samples to diagnose the problems, determine the severity, and offer the most effective repair solution.

New Era to open Chicago flagship

Buffalo, N.Y. — New Era announced it will open its 10th flagship, in the heart of downtown Chicago. The two-level, 4,500-sq.-ft. store, New Era’s largest location to date, will sell licensed and New Era branded headwear, apparel and accessories for men, women and kids. The brand is best known for being the official on-field cap for Major League Baseball.

This is New Era’s first owned and operated retail presence in the Midwest. Chicago will serve as a test market for new retail formats the brand is rolling out. Following the large-scale flagship, the brand will open numerous locations comprised of smaller company stores and outlets throughout the greater Chicagoland area though 2013.

"The blend of sport culture, art and fashion in Chicago offers New Era a perfect testing ground for new retail formats. Our extended presence in the market offers us several major touch points to connect to our evolving consumer base," said Cal Lawson, director of retail operations.
