Loft to open four stores in Canada

Toronto — Loft, a division of Ann Inc., is expanding in Canada, with four new stores by the end of fall 2013.

Loft entered Canada last November, at Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto. The chain will open a store in Toronto Eaton Centrer, Toronto, in late May, followed by additional units at Lime Ridge Mall in Hamilton in July, Markville Shopping Centre in Markham in August and Square One Shopping Centre in Mississauga in October.

"Since the opening of our first international Loft store in Toronto last year, we’ve had the opportunity to build relationships with our Canadian customers, and we’re thrilled to collaborate even more with women across Ontario through these new locations," said Alia Ahmed-Yahia, chief style director.

Sbarro plans 20 locations in Ontario, Canada

Melville, N.Y. — Sbarro is expanding its international growth with plans to open 20 eateries in Ontario, Canada. This announcement is the latest in a series of franchise agreements that have recently expanded Sbarro’s presence across Europe, the Middle East, South America, Asia and the Pacific.

Sbarro has partnered with master franchisor Youssef Hassoun, owner of Hassoun Enterprises, to develop and operate Sbarro eateries exclusively in Ontario. The company opened its first Sbarro location at North York City Center in Toronto earlier this year (January 2013), and opened a second eatery at the Bramalea City Center in Brampton, Ontario earlier this month (May 2013).

The franchise agreement with Hassoun Enterprises, Ltd. expands Sbarro’s footprint in Canada to more than 30 eateries. By the end of August 2013, Hassoun will open three more Sbarro eateries at the following locations throughout Ontario, Canada: Rouge Valley Centenary Hospital in Scarborough Ontario; Hunt Club in Ottawa; and Simon Premium Outlet Center in Toronto.

West Elm going global

Brooklyn, N.Y. — Home furnishings retailer West Elm, a division of Williams-Sonoma, has announced its first international locations. The company has signed leases for stores the London and Australia, with both stores scheduled to open in late 2013.

“We’re excited to announce our first West Elm store in Europe, and to continue our global expansion in Australia,” said Laura Alber, president and CEO of Williams-Sonoma

The 12,000-sq.-ft. London location, on Tottenham Court Road, represents first Williams-Sonoma store in Europe.

The second store, an 8,000-sq.-ft. location in Melbourne, follows the recent openings of four Williams-Sonoma stores – West Elm, Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn and Pottery Barn Kids – in Sydney.
