BY CSA STAFF

Pure Leaf Iced Tea, a product from the Pepsi Lipton Tea partnership, is expanding its partnership with television personality Gail Simmons to support the brand’s "Share the Love of Leaves" program.

Fans of the beverage can pitch in to make a difference in their communities, and up to $150,000 will be donated to Wholesome Wave, a nonprofit that focuses on making fresh and healthy food affordable and accessible to all people.

"At its core, Pure Leaf uses real tea leaves to deliver an outstanding product with real brewed tea taste. We wanted to take our commitment to realness to the next level, and we found a great way by supporting access to wholesome foods," said Eric Whitehouse, marketing director for the Pepsi Lipton Tea Partnership. "In partnership with Gail Simmons, our shared passion will raise awareness of Wholesome Wave’s efforts and provide underserved communities with access to fresh produce through local farmers markets."

Consumers can visit the brand’s Tumblr fan at TheLoveOfLeaves.com to follow the program and gather recipes, household tips, DIY project and more.

Pure Leaf also announced the launch of new Pure Leaf Tea & Lemonade, which blends brewed black tea and lemonade. It can be found at retailers in the Northeast.

FTC likes look of menswear merger

BY CSA STAFF

The Men’s Wearhouse expects to close on its acquisition for Jos. A. Bank in the next 30 days after the Federal Trade Commission determined the deal doesn’t violate antitrust laws.

Men’s Wearhouse agreed to pay $65 a share for Jos. A. Bank earlier this year in a deal valued at $1.8 billion that will create a company with more than 1,700 stores and pro forma annual sales of $3.5 billion.

"Together, Men’s Wearhouse and Jos. A. Bank will have increased scale and breadth, and Jos. A. Bank’s strong brand and complementary business model will broaden our customer reach,” said Men’s Wearhouse president and CEO Doug Ewert. “Men’s Wearhouse shareholders will benefit from approximately $100 to $150 million of run-rate annual synergies realized over three years, through improving purchasing efficiencies, optimizing customer service and marketing practices, and streamlining duplicative corporate functions.”

Plans also call for Men’s Wearhouse to leverage its vertical direct sourcing model to improve combined merchandising and sourcing across the combined company and rationalize inventory over time.
