MacDade Mall attracts junior anchors with recent redevelopment
Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania —The newly redeveloped MacDade Mall – located at 2600 MacDade Boulevard in Holmes, Pennsylvania – has attracted two new junior anchors: Marshalls, which opened in August 2013, and Ross, which will hold its grand opening this month.
The circa-1969 mall was redeveloped by owner/operator Wolfson Group, which invested $10 million to gut the entire structure down to the steel, remove the mall’s interior enclosure, install new utilities, and re-orient storefronts with all-new facades toward the street—effectively “de-malling” the shopping center so tenants can welcome a new generation of customers.
Additionally, a new central corridor provides access to tenants situated in the rear of the site.
Straddling the line between Ridley Township and Glenolden Borough, the 97% leased MacDade Mall includes 274,500 sq. ft. of retail space and parking for 875 cars. Anchored by Big Kmart and ACME, retail tenants include TD Bank, Citizens Bank, Retro Fitness, McLaughlin’s Beverage, Hair Cuttery, Ruby Tuesday, Ambiance Nails, SONIC, and Burger King, with additional tenants to be announced in coming months.
The Opus Group to build three Gander Mountain stores
Minneapolis — The Opus Group announced plans to build three 52,000-sq.-ft. retail buildings for St. Paul, Minnesota-based Gander Mountain. The new retail stores will be located in Augusta, Georgia; Newnan, Georgia and Algonquin, Illinois.
Opus has previously completed four retail buildings for Gander Mountain in Alabama and Georgia.
The new retail facilities will help Gander Mountain achieve its vision for a smaller, more open concept retail space. An open floor plan organized in a circular path will allow customers to conveniently move throughout the mercantile floor and help to accommodate large outdoor recreation goods and equipment.
“Passion for the outdoors is what matters most to us, and our continued partnership with Opus is helping us offer the best outdoor and recreation retail experience to Gander Mountain customers,” said Eric Jacobsen, Gander Mountain’s executive VP and director of real estate.
Opus Design Build, L.L.C. is the general contractor and CMA is providing architecture services. Construction on the new buildings will progress through the summer with completion slated for fall 2014.
Beyond these three projects, Opus Design Build, L.L.C. is also performing tenant improvements on a 96,275-sq.-ft. space at an existing Gander Mountain store in Forest Lake, Minnesota. These renovations are scheduled for completion fall 2014.
Plaza Hermosa adds state-of-the-art medical facility as part of improvements
Hermosa Beach, California —Regency Centers announced that Torrance Memorial and Hermosa Beach Fish Shop will open at Plaza Hermosa. Torrance Memorial’s new facility is slated to open this fall and will specialize in primary care and pediatrics.
The Hermosa Beach Fish Shop replaces the restaurant space previously occupied by The Counter Burger. The fresh fish and craft microbrew beer establishment has established a cult following in Pacific Beach (San Diego) in only four years of operation. The new location at Plaza Hermosa will take advantage of proximity to the beach, as well as the abundance of parking and outdoor seating provided to the site.
