Target’s Canadian rollout ramps up

BY Katherine Boccaccio

Minneapolis — Target Corp. said Monday that it will open 17 southwestern Ontario, Canada store on March 19 and another four on March 28, on the heels of three successful pilot-store launches in the area.

The added slate of openings, said Target, will allow the retailer more opportunity to volume-test in advance of April grand opening dates.

The 21 new locations are in addition to pilot stores in Guelph, Milton and Fergus, and will complete the 24 stores scheduled to open in March. Target plans to open 124 stores across Canada throughout 2013.

"Welcoming the first Canadian guests at our pilot stores was a great moment for all team members at Target," said Tony Fisher, president, Target Canada. "We have learned quickly from the results of our pilot stores and are committed to delivering on Target’s Expect More. Pay Less. brand promise as we approach our grand opening in early April."
