Maybelline fashions a new beauty blog

NEW YORK — Maybelline New York has launched "City," its first monthly fashion and makeup blog.

Beginning in March, City will bring monthly issues to readers throughout the year. The theme for March is “March to Your Own Beat,” and it provides tips and features on creating beauty and fashion looks. In addition, viewers can peek behind-the-scenes at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week New York and learn about top trends from the season. Visitors also will have access to instructional beauty videos from this season of NBC’s “Fashion Star.”

The core City team members include Maybelline New York spokesmodel, designer and stylist Erin Wasson. makeup artist Gabriel Almodovar and NBC “Fashion Star” host Louise Roe. They will lead the conversation by sharing personal insights on style and makeup.

“Maybelline New York is not only continuously on the cutting edge of beauty’s emerging technologies and top trends, but it also retains a deep understanding of how the amplification of current and relevant topics fuel social media conversation,” stated Carolyn Holba, SVP of Maybelline. “With the launch of City, we can now broaden the scope of that conversation to include input from experts who share the brand’s spirit and energy while we deliver content in an approachable yet aspirational way. This is the essence of Maybelline New York.”

Retail consultants named to Pep Boys board

PHILADELPHIA — The Pep Boys – Manny, Moe & Jack has announced that Robert Rosenblatt and Andrea Weiss have joined its board of directors. With these appointments, Pep Boys has increased the current size of its board from seven to nine directors.

Rosenblatt is president of Ideeli, a members-only e-retailer that sells women’s fashion and décor items during limited-time sales and CEO of Rosenblatt Consulting LLC, a retail consulting firm. He has over 25 years of experience leading mid-size to large retail organizations, including Tommy Hilfiger, HSN (formerly the Home Shopping Network) and Bloomingdale’s. Rosenblatt also serves as a director of two privately-held companies.

Weiss is president and CEO of Retail Consulting Inc. a boutique consulting practice focused on product and brand development, consumer contact strategies, operational improvements and turnarounds. Weiss has extensive specialty retail experience having served in several senior executive positions with dELiA*s, The Limited, Intimate Brands, Guess and Ann Taylor Stores. Ms. Weiss currently serves as a Director for Chico’s, Cracker Barrel Old Country Store and Nutrisystem.

Target names new board members

Senior executives from Yahoo! and Ecolab are the newest members of the board of directors at Target.

The retailer late Wednesday announced the addition of Douglas M. Baker, Jr., chairman and CEO of Ecolab Inc., and Henrique De Castro, COO of Yahoo! Inc., to its board, effective immediately.

Baker, 54, is a 24-year veteran at St. Paul, Minn.-based Ecolab. Prior to being named president and CEO in July 2004, Baker held key roles in marketing, sales and general management in both the U.S. and Europe. He became chairman in May 2006.

De Castro, 47, joined Yahoo! as COO last November after serving the prior seven years in a variety of leadership positions at Google, including global roles in media, mobile and platforms, partner business, strategy and sales. He also previously led teams at Dell and McKinsey & Company in Europe.

"We’re very pleased to welcome Doug and Henrique to our board," said Target chairman, president and CEO Gregg Steinhafel. "As Target continues to explore and seize profitable new opportunities in a rapidly-changing environment, we expect to benefit greatly from their organizational, operational and strategic insight, their significant global experience and perspective, and their unique leadership and digital expertise."
