Meg Whitman Won’t Seek Re-Election to Gap Board
San Francisco, Gap Inc. announced on Monday that Meg Whitman, president and CEO of eBay, has decided not to stand for re-election to the company’s board of directors when her current term expires in May, due to her other professional commitments.
Whitman has served on Gap’s board since 2003. Gap said it is seeking another board member who is independent of the company.
Barnes & Noble Appoints Director
New York City, Barnes & Noble appointed William F. Reilly to its board of directors. Reilly has been CEO of Aurelian Communications, a special-interest publisher, since he founded it in February 2002. He served as chairman and CEO of Primedia Inc., a specialty media company, from February 1990 to 1999. He also served as a member of the board of directors of Barnes & Noble.com from 1999 to 2004.
SEC Puts Ingles on Notice
Asheville, N.C., Supermarket chain Ingles Markets Inc. was put on notice by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that the commission will recommend civil action against the company. In a statement, Ingles said the SEC’s Wells notice relates to vendor contracts the company entered into in 2002 and 2003 and internal accounting control issues that have been previously disclosed.
