Men’s Wearhouse succession plan: Founder Zimmer to step down as CEO
Houston — Men’s Wearhouse announced Monday that company president and COO Douglas S. Ewert will succeed founder George Zimmer as president and COO, effective June 15.
According to the retailer, the transition is part of a previously announced succession plan.
Ewert, 47, has been nominated by the board to be elected as a director of the company at the annual shareholder meeting and will be included in the list of nominees in the proxy statement for consideration by the shareholders.
Zimmer, 62, will continue as executive chairman of the board of directors, and will assist in strategic direction and marketing activities.
President of Urban Outfitters resigns
Philadelphia — Urban Outfitters said Thursday that Stephen Murray has resigned as global president of the Urban Outfitters brand.
The company said Murray plans to return to London and "pursue an opportunity with a wholesale business having an international focus."
Urban Outfitters CEO Glen Senk will take on Murray’s duties until a replacement is found, the company said.
Retail Concepts selects Opterus for operational productivity
Toronto — Web-based task management and store communications provider Opterus said that sporting goods retailer Retail Concepts has implemented Opterus Store Ops-Center.
According to Opterus, Retail Concepts, which operates stores under the Sun & Ski Sports banner, is looking to increase operational productivity by more than 20%.
“As we continue to grow, we need to centralize all communications to our stores in order to maximize efficiency. Store Ops-Center gives us an instant store portal that will allow us to manage all our communications to the stores and track our task compliance,” said Shelly Nixon, VP information technology, Retail Concepts.
Opterus is providing Retail Concepts with tools to improve operational efficiency through enhanced store communications and compliance monitoring of corporate objectives. Store Ops-Center is an on-demand, web-based retail portal designed to communicate corporate policy, day-to-day objectives and tasks, and handle issues between the corporate office and store locations, enabling rapid and accurate transfer of information to stores.
