Murphy Oil announces deal with Wal-Mart for 200 fuel stations

El Dorado, Ark. — Murphy Oil USA announced Wednesday it has entered into an agreement with Wal-Mart Stores Inc. for 200 new fuel stations in the midwestern and southeastern U.S.

According to the agreement, Murphy Oil will build more than 200 new fuel stations at existing Wal-Mart Super Centers over the next three years.

Steven Cosse, president and CEO, Murphy Oil Corp., said the agreement with Wal-Mart is a significant step forward for the pair’s long-term relationship.

J.C. Penney hires former Abercrombie VP as director of visual merchandising

New York — J.C. Penney Co. has hired Brandon Tonniges, a former Abercrombie & Fitch Co. executive, as director of visual merchandising, Bloomberg reported.

Tonniges was a VP in Abercrombie’s “brand senses” division, described on the chain’s website as the “creative force” behind its store experience, according to the report.

Tonniges will report to a VP under Michael Fisher, who was named SVP visual presentation in March.

Amazon and Kohl’s execs among those honored by NRF

Washington, D.C. — Executives at Amazon, Kohl’s, Crocs and Lululemon have been named recipients of the National Retail Federation’s annual awards. Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos received the Gold Medal Award, recognized for serving the industry with distinction and achieving a national reputation for excellence.

Kohl’s senior EVP logistics Ken Bonning received the Silver Plaque Award. The award is presented to a senior executive with an NRF member company or retail-related organization who has achieved prominence in his or her individual field, and who has shown outstanding leadership in his or her NRF council or committee work, making a major contribution to the retail industry or to NRF.


Crocs president and CEO John McCarvel received the Retail Innovator of the Year Award, for successfully distinguishing himself as a retail pioneer through the use of new, innovative or imaginative techniques, formats or service.

Lululemon Athletica CEO Christine Day received the International Retailer of the Year Award for achieving international recognition for excellence in the company’s native country and internationally.


All award winners are selected by the NRF Award Committee.
