NCR accelerates deployment of Blockbuster Express rental kiosks in Publix
Duluth, Ga. NCR Corp. has reached an agreement to operate its DVD-rental kiosks in Publix Super Markets.
NCR plans to complete the installation of its Blockbuster Express DVD-rental kiosks in most Florida-area Publix stores by Nov. 1. NCR also has begun installations in select Publix stores in other major markets, including Atlanta; Birmingham, Ala.; Savannah, Ga.; Greenville, S.C.; and Charleston, S.C.
“At Publix, we strive to continuously offer our customers value and service,” said Maria Brous, director of media and community relations for Publix Super Markets. “By partnering with NCR, we are offering our customers the convenience of DVD rentals as part of their traditional shopping experience. The initial feedback we have received from our customers is that they enjoy the wide selection of movies, ease of the transaction and the time-saving aspect of one-stop shopping.”
NCR is launching a new self-service DVD-rental experience under the Blockbuster Express brand, offering consumers the widest selection of new releases and classic DVDs through conveniently located kiosks.
NCR expects to invest as much as $60 million in 2009 to build out its DVD-rental kiosk operations. The company expects to deploy more than 2,500 kiosks in 2009 for a total of 10,000 kiosks by mid-year 2010.
Forget the economy! Oreck opens new outlet store
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. Oreck Corporation opens the company’s first outlet store in Cookeville, Tenn., adding to more than 450 Oreck Clean Home centers across the country. Oreck headquarters is in Nashville.

The Oreck Outlet opening in Cookeville kicks off Oreck’s “Clean for the Cure” campaign supporting Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world. October is national Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“For every pink-accented Clean for the Cure special edition Oreck XL bagged vacuum purchased, Oreck donates $25 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure,” Fry said.

Kohl’s and Hunger Task Force help feed students
MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. Kohl’s is partnering with Hunger Task Force to create Kohl’s Serving Up Supper for Kids. This one-year pilot program will feed 2,775 Milwaukee-area children each day.
Hunger Task Force developed this program to provide a third daily meal year-round to children at 25 locations in the Milwaukee Public School District. The program will provide snacks and suppers to feed kids 13 years and older at 25 Community Learning Centers, CLCs. The meal program began serving in 12 school locations starting Sept. 1 and the remaining 13 locations will begin serving by Oct. 1.
“The Kohl’s Serving Up Supper for Kids program will provide 721,500 meals this year alone,” said Sherrie Tussler, executive director of Hunger Task Force. “With 35% of children in the city of Milwaukee living in poverty, we know there is room for improvement in addressing hunger – including outside of school hours.”
