Office Depot’s head of environmental strategy honored

Boca Raton, Fla. Office Depot Thursday announced that its director of environmental strategy, Yalmaz Siddiqui, was recognized by the Responsible Purchasing Network, an influential network of buyers focused on socially responsible and environmentally sustainable purchasing, as “Responsible Purchaser of the Year.”

According to Chris O’Brien, senior director of the Responsible Purchasing Network, “Yalmaz’s work developing the 2009 Office Depot Green Book catalog of green office products demonstrates his extraordinary commitment to advancing sustainable procurement. Yalmaz sought RPN input for the standards and specifications portion of the new Green Book and then implemented many of our key recommendations. Yalmaz’s approach on behalf of Office Depot reflects corporate best practices in stakeholder engagement, green product definition and green marketing.”

CompUSA hires training director

MIAMI, Fla. CompUSA has appointed Gabriel Vasquez as director of training, effective immediately, as the company expands its retail operations throughout locations across the country.

Vasquez most recently served as sell-through training leadership manager for Monster Cable in San Francisco, Calif. Prior to joining Monster Cable, he was director of training for Warrantech Latin America (Bedford, Tex.), where he was responsible for both warranty trainings and sales of consumer and automotive warranties.

Giant Food opens first convenience store

CARLISLE, Pa. Giant Food Stores will opens its first convenience store, Giant To Go, next week on April 15.

The 4,422-square-foot store will focus on fresh, on-the-go products, according to reports, and offer savings for rewards program members. Giant To Go, will be open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and will employ 12 people.

A Giant fuel station will be located outside the store.
